Get Started

There are only a few steps involved in registering yourself and your team/project. You must register to be eligible for the GovHack competition and registering also gives you access to the mentor forums for support.

1. Sign up as a ‘hacker’

All eventbrite registrations have been imported to the new improved GovHack HackerSpace. You will receive an email on Thursday the 30th May with instructions and to set your password.

2. Create or join a ‘team’

To register your team, just create a team which becomes part of your final report. Once we have confirmed a few more details it will be published on this website and registered hackers will be notified.

All teams must be registered before 1:30pm Saturday Canberra time.

3. Start ‘hacking’ on Friday, June 1

Teams will be given support via the HackerSpace forums over the weekend, so make sure you post your questions within the relevant topics for GovHack mentors to pick up and run with. Plus you can contact Mentors directly for support.

4. Finalise your team page with information about your project

Teams will need to publish details about their projects on their team page before 5pm Sunday in order to be judged and eligible for prizes. When you register a team a page will be generated for you.

Your team page is the first major component judges will be looking at for the competitions so make it creative, get heaps of information up, take screenshots, etc. You also must submit a 3 minute video and any source code/content. See the Competition Rules for more information.

After the competition closes, each location will showcase their local video submissions and there will be a short break before a couple of immediate awards will be announced, again live streamed and cutting between Canberra and all the other locations.

5. Final Awards at GovCamp – June 6th

The rest of the awards will be announced on June 6th at GovCamp in Canberra with local events happening around the country. Check out the schedule for more information.

That’s it. First things first though, Sign up as a Hacker to get started and we’ll see you Friday!
